Excellent story. I too coached the young ones. When my son was 4 I coached his "soccer" team. We had one game that ended 2-2 with neither team scoring into the correct net. And the ice cream truck halted the game.

Oh yes, Engineers and Children make for some great experiments. I'm one myself and we've built some pretty incredible K'nex and Domino devices only to have the 2 year old promptly destroy them. It's a blast!

Heh. This totally reminds me of my softball/baseball days, with my dad as the coach, trying to get me excited about playing catcher because "that's the best position to see the whole game; that's how players get to be managers later!" He said to his 8-year old daughter. :-D I preferred 2nd base and short stop, and that's where I got my all-star play.

My husband is currently telling our 6 month old son all about how Mommy is going to teach him how play ball, and Daddy will teach him how to set things on fire and blow them up. Because she's still got her bat and glove, and Daddy's the engineer. :-D
