Having a 15 month old, she really set her own schedule, starting when I was still wanting to rock her to sleep when we moved her to a crib, and found she put herself to sleep better than I ever could! We have an outline of a schedule, but by no means does the world collapse when she wants to sleep in until 10am instead of her typical 7/8am, or doesn't get to her nap at 2! She can get cranky, but patience wins over frantically pulling my child out of a playdate or scheduling all apointments around her naps! But i'm pretty lax about bedtime and I know people who gasp when they find my daughter isn't in bed by 8pm! Nine is out bedtime, but my husband not having a typical 9-5 is away from home a day or two, or home late. So there are days she dearly misses her daddy, stands at the door/window saying dada, and for me, her spending 30 minutes or an hour passed her bedtime to spend time with him is a million times more important than keeping to her schedule!

Its all about the schedule boss...kids work best when well scheduled. I didn't really buy it till we started scheduling naps, dinner, bedtime, etc....it made a world of difference in the happiness of our kids.

Now that said I do know a few moms myself who could stand to turn the rigidity dial down a few notches...
